Answer: When a library signs a license with a vendor for a product, the library provides a list of IP addresses that represent the parent organization's network to the vendor of the resource. When a person attempts to access a restricted resource the vendor's system checks the user's IP address. If the address falls within the range of addresses associated with one of their customer libraries, access is allowed. This arrangement works very well for users who access the resource within the organization's network, but it fails to provide access to home users and others on a computer with an IP address associated with an independent Internet service provider (ISP). To access such resources off-campus, you will need to install VPN, please see below.
Answer: VPN stands for virtual private network. This is a service that can help one unlock the e-journal content hosted on the library OPAC while off campus. Without VPN, one cannot access content. Go ahead and click on https://www.usiu.ac.ke/library to download and install the VPN. Take note that the VPN links provided are for Windows, Apple and Android platforms.
