Communication Research Methods Associations/Organizations

The Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) is a nonprofit, educational association of journalism and mass communication educators, students and media professionals. The Association’s mission is to promote the highest possible standards for journalism and mass communication education, to cultivate the widest possible range of communication research, to encourage the implementation of a multi-cultural society in the classroom and curriculum, and to defend and maintain freedom of communication in an effort to achieve better professional practice and a better informed public.

The American Communication Association (ACA) is a not-for-profit virtual professional association with actual presence in the world of communication scholars and practitioners. ACA is committed to enabling the effective use of new and evolving technologies to facilitate communication instruction, research and criticism, and to offering a technologically supportive venue for all who study the ways in which humans communicate. While the Association is based in the United States, it is a virtual organization that welcomes participation from academics and professionals throughout the world.

The International Communication Association aims to advance the scholarly study of human communication by encouraging and facilitating excellence in academic research worldwide.

The National Communication Association (NCA) serves the scholars, teachers, and practitioners who are its members by enabling and supporting their professional interests in research and teaching. Dedicated to fostering and promoting free and ethical communication, NCA promotes the widespread appreciation of the importance of communication in public and private life, the application of competent communication to improve the quality of human life and relationships, and the use of knowledge about communication to solve human problems. NCA supports inclusiveness and diversity among our faculties, within our membership, in the workplace, and in the classroom; NCA supports and promotes policies that fairly encourage this diversity and inclusion.
International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) aims to support and develop media and communication research throughout the world with a special focus on emerging scholars, women, and those from economically disadvantaged regions.

International Association for Relationship Research (IARR) is focused on the scientific study of personal and social relationships. Most of its members are faculty and students. The membership includes persons with affiliations in psychology, communication, sociology, family studies, anthropology, philosophy, as well as other related disciplines.

International Listening Association (ILA) promotes the study, development, and teaching of listening and the practice of effective listening skills and techniques. ILA promotes effective listening by establishing a network of professionals exchanging information including teaching methods, training experiences and materials, and pursuing research as listening affects humanity in business, education, and intercultural/international relations.

World Communication Association (WCA) is dedicated to the improvement of communication worldwide by linking those people who hold common professional and personal interests.
