Loss, Grief and Bereavement

Kenya Association of Professional Counsellors (KAPC) is a registered Non-governmental organization. It was registered in 1990 and has 3 major functions:

  •  Membership association
  •  Counselling services
  •  Academic training courses

Still A Mum: We are an organization that is passionate about maternal mental health. Launched in Kenya in 2015, we have supported over 2,000 moms and dads who have lost a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth and infant loss throughout Africa. We face loss through different forms right from death of a loved one, divorce, employment, property or a relationship. Grief is an emotional response to loss. It is hard work and is often eased through psychological support.

TEARS Kenya

The TEARS Foundation seeks to compassionately lift a financial burden from families who have lost a child by providing funds to assist with the cost of burial or cremation services.  We also offer parents comprehensive bereavement care in the form of grief support groups and peer companions.

Inner Healing: Coping with the loss of someone or something you love is one of life’s biggest challenges. Often, the pain of loss can feel overwhelming. You may experience all kinds of difficult and unexpected emotions, from shock or anger to disbelief, guilt, and profound sadness. The pain of grief can also disrupt your physical health, making it difficult to sleep, eat, or even think straight. These are normal reactions to significant loss. But while there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there are healthy ways to cope with the pain that, in time, can ease your sadness and help you come to terms with your loss, find new meaning, and move on with your life.
The mission of The Compassionate Friends: When a child dies, at any age, the family suffers intense pain and may feel hopeless and isolated. The Compassionate Friends provides highly personal comfort, hope, and support to every family experiencing the death of a son or a daughter, a brother or a sister, or a grandchild, and helps others better assist the grieving family.
GriefShare is for people grieving the death of a family member or friend. We understand that there are other losses in life that create feelings of grief. You might be experiencing a job loss, a divorce, estrangement from a child, or the loss of friends because of a move. This grief is real, but it is not the kind of grief discussed in GriefShare sessions.
